LONELY
PLANET TEXAS
February, 2011
I didn't really have to spend a month and a half in Texas to research this book. It could have been done in three weeks. But having lived in Austin for many, many years, "research" included revisiting all my favorite places, you know, just to make sure they hadn't changed or anything, and drinking margaritas with old friends.
I also took a massive West Texas roadtrip, something I never did while I lived there. I saw the marginally famous Marfa Mystery Lights, went to a Star Party at the McDonald Observatory, and crossed paths with a bear while hiking in Big Bend.

LONELY
PLANET USA
March, 2010
It's
a big country, and someone's gotta write about it. Eighteen
authors set out to find explore every nook and
cranny of the U.S. My assignment? To cover Florida from the Panhandle down to Key West.
Turns out I love Key West most of all. We happened to be there just in time to welcome the USNS Vandenberg to town. The enormous WWII war ship was docked there for only a couple of weeks before they sunk it six miles offshore to create the world's second largest artificial reef. If I ever want to see it again, I'll have to learn to scuba dive.

The subhead of this book is "52 Themed Itineraries, 1009 Local
Places to See," and I was personally responsible for 14 of the itineraties and about 271 of the local places to see.
As part of my duties, I got to explore Washington's
wine country, visit roadside attractions, and look
for whales from the San Juan Islands (which I highly recommend).

DESTINATION WEDDING PLANNER
By Alison Hotchkiss with Mariella Krause
March, 2009
Chronicle Books
I
always wondered what "with" meant on the title
page. Now, I'm a "with." Which means I'm the
ghostwriter. Which sounds spooky, but it isn't. Especially
since it's for Chronicle Books. This is a wedding planner
for people getting married somewhere other than where
they live, which I wrote with a destination wedding
planner, Alison
Hotchkiss.

LONELY
PLANET USA
March, 2008
This was my first Lonely Planet title, which I started research on about ten minutes after I submitted the manuscript for the book below. Luckily, I didn't pen this hefty chunk of a book on my own. I was one of 18 authors, and my (relatively) modest task was to write the Florida chapter. The best part? Discovering that I really love Key West.

giggle
guide to baby gear
by Ali Wing, text by Mariella Krause
September, 2008
Chronicle Books
I
don't have kids, unless you count my cat, whichjust
to be clearI don't. So when I told everyone that
I was writing a baby book, the reaction was, "Oh...
really?" (What they were really thinking: Is it
about your cat?) But Ali
Wing, CEO of giggle baby stores, can tell you just about anything you need
to know about picking out all that stuff you need when
you have a kid. And now, after working with her on this
project, I can too.
